1. Check Venue Policies

Before making any plans, ensure that your wedding venue allows dogs. Some venues may have restrictions or specific guidelines regarding pets. If they do allow pets be sure to check the premises for open spaces, quiet rooms, etc that your dog will benefit from.

2. Consider Your Dog's Temperament

Assess whether your dog is comfortable in large crowds and around unfamiliar people. If your dog is anxious or easily overwhelmed, it might be best to leave them at home. If they do end up staying at home why not print out some pictures and hang them round the venue. That way they are there still with you on the day.

3. Designate a Handler

Choose a responsible person you can trust to take care of your dog during the event. This person can manage your dog's needs and ensure they are comfortable throughout the day. You will have peace of mind knowing they are there but in good hands on your day.

4. Prepare for the Ceremony

Consider how your dog will participate in the ceremony. You might want to include them as part of the bridal party or have a special role, such as carrying the rings. I've seen dogs walk the bride down the aisle to being best man. It's your day so make it how you want.

5. Plan for Comfort

Bring along your dog's favourite blanket, toys, and water bowl to make them feel at ease. A ball or two won't go a miss. This will enable the guests to play with them throughout the day. Make sure they also have a quiet space to retreat to if they become overwhelmed.

6. Keep Safety in Mind

Ensure that your dog is on a leash or in a secure area at all times. Be mindful of any food or decorations around the venue that could be harmful to them.

7. Consider the Weather

If your wedding is outdoors, consider the weather conditions. Make arrangements for shade or a cool area for your dog if it's hot, and ensure they are warm if it's cold. Bring a towel for them if it rains..A wet dog in between your wedding guests wont go down well.

8. Plan for Cleanup

Have supplies on hand for any accidents, including waste bags and cleaning supplies. This will help you maintain a clean environment for your guests.

9. Include Dog-Friendly Treats

Consider providing some dog-friendly treats for your furry friend to enjoy during the celebration. This can make them feel included and happy.

10. Make sure they are presentable

You want your dog to look good on the day. Make sure they get a trim and a wash before the day. You can even get them their own wedding outfit so they match the party.

11. Capture the Moment

Make sure to include your dog in the wedding photos. They are part of your family, and capturing memories with them will be special. Let them interact with your guests if they are comfortable, these make great candid photos from the day.

12. Have a Backup Plan

In case your dog becomes too stressed or restless, have a plan for someone to take them home or to a safe location nearby.

13. Enjoy the Day

Finally, remember to relax and enjoy the day. Your dog is there to celebrate with you, so make the most of the moment!
